Crafted a tune that has strong potential… and just needs a few updates to make it great? Udio’s new Session interface (“Sessions” for short) is just what you need!
Availability
The Sessions interface is available to all paid subscribers.
At this time, the Styles feature within Sessions is offered as an experimental Early Access feature exclusively for Pro subscribers.
You can only directly edit songs that you have created, as tempting as it might be to edit someone else's 😄
Interactive learning event this coming Monday!
Learn the ins and outs of Sessions from Ian, Udio's Head of Product!
Join our interactive walkthrough on Monday, June 30 at 3pm ET.
How Sessions keeps you in the flow
Sessions lets you edit and extend any track with precision and ease while giving you more freedom to experiment… since you can save “takes” (or snapshots) and undo one or more of your edits with just a couple clicks!
More broadly, Sessions provides a frictionless experience for iterating on tracks, letting you can work on a song with a lot less 'back and forth'.
Lastly, all the extensions and replacements created within the Sessions tool are saved automatically underneath a "Sessions" within your library, helping keep things organized.
Getting started
Start a session
You can start a session in one of two ways:
...directly from your library
...or from a song page
Initiate an extension or replacement
Note that all extensions and replacements made within Sessions use credits in exactly the same way as they do outside of the Sessions interface
Create an extension
To create an extension to your song (at the beginning or end)...
Enter Extend mode (bottom 'Extend' option)
Choose the type of extension you want (intro, section, or outro)
Optionally adjust the extend segment (to trim)
Click the <-l-> Extend button.
Replace a segment
Enter Replace mode (bottom 'Replace' option)
Highlight the waveform with your mouse and refine by dragging either of the section edges
Click the Replace command at the bottom.
If your song has lyrics...
...keep an eye on the lyrics panel to see what words correspond to your highlighted section (and adjust accordingly).
You can click on any word in the lyrics panel to immediately start playing the song from there. Or you can close the lyrics panel if you're not using it.
To edit any lyrics, simply make changes in place in the lyrics panel before clicking the Replace command button.
Review and optionally undo changes
After the extension or replacement has finished generating, you can then listen and toggle between Take 1 and Take 2.
Don’t like either take? You can Undo the extension or replacement by clicking the Undo button or hitting CMD-Z (on Mac) or CTRL-Z (on Windows).
Most commands in Sessions are available via keyboard shortcuts! Mouseover icons to discover shortcuts like R for replace mode, E for extend mode, and spacebar for play and pause.
